Turn off monitor feature of softMCCS

I'm having a problem with my hdmi monitor in that it wont go into standby, i've tried many programs for a way to get it into standby and the closest i have come is this program ability to turn it right off. the only problem is its a bit cumbersome and was wondering if there is any way for me to make a shortcut that i can make keyboard activated to shut the monitor off and on completely.

Nope. softMCCS will remain an engineer's tool, but the feature you are looking for is in mControl. Just create a shortcut with the following parameters:

OFF
mControl.exe /SetPowerMode OFF

ON
mControl.exe /SetPowerMode ON

Easier still is to automate this by linking to your screen saver:

1. Add the following switch to the registry under HKCU\Software\EnTech\mControl:

ssPowerOff = 1 (dword)

2. Enable a screen saver in Windows
3. Check "Energy conservation" in the mControl menu

When the screen saver kicks in, all supported monitors will be powered off; when you wake up/cancel the screen saver, all supported monitors will be powered back up.

Make sure you do a Live update to get the latest mControl build (450).

Thank you both for your help, unfortunately neither of these are working, i made a shortcut pointing to that path and all it does is start mControl, I also tried to do the screensaver thing but nothing happens except turn the screen saver on. both of your instructions were very easy to follow so i dont believe i made a mistake, here is a copy of the log.

monitor number 1 is the one having the problem, the other monitor will shut off just fine (dvi-d works, hdmi doesnt) Again thank you for your very prompt and helpful comments

I'm afraid your first monitor - CM07801 (what is that?) - does not support power management (0xD6) via software. But the HSD1CF3 does and should work if you have things set up properly.

Further test:

1. Make sure "Energy conservation" is checked
2. Set the screen saver to kick in after 1 minute (to speed up the test)
3. When the screen saver kicks in, check the OSD on the monitors to see what the brightness level is

It should be zero on both monitors (or in standby on the HSD1CF3).

my primary monitor is the one that while using mccs will shut down at 0xd6, im afraid its not scanning the monitors right. the main one should be an i-inc if281d monitor.

i have the screen saver set to "bubbles" not blank screen like i originally have, nothing happens to the brightness of either monitor.

edit: a quick google search tells me that HSD1CF3 is my main monitor, im not sure why its showing up as monitor 2.

edit2: CM07801 is i believe my offbrand monitor from 5 years ago, its actually model number is ct-723d and its made by cmv, its also an lcd.

Its impossible for these things to scan "wrong". But your issue is a bit of a mystery. Post the softMCCS log and the mControl reports again - let me compare.

(softMCCS reads the monitor directly, while mControl goes thru the display driver.)

these are both coming off one graphics card, so the primary secondary issue might just be the order i have them plugged in.

The Windows order of the monitors is not relevant, and the mControl report is identical to the softMCCS report (which is *always* right).

The "CMO CMC 17" AD" does not support software control over power management, although its EDID does declare support for DPM.

The "HannStar Hanns.G iF281" supports software control over power management.

With mControl's "Energy conservation" set, and ssPowerOff=1, the CMO brightness should drop to 0 and the HannsG should go into standby, when the screen saver kicks in. If not, you are looking at a Windows 7 Beta issue.

I just checked this under Win7 with dual monitors - a Dell and an LG - and its all works fine, except the registry switch (ssPowerOff) - that will be fixed today.

But the command-line "mcontrol.exe /setpowermode off" works fine now. It would, however, have no effect on your CMO because it doesn't support this command.

Exactly. This command would work with any version of mControl.

Its probably easiest to create a shortcut to mControl on your desktop, then edit the Properties and append the parameters to the "Target" field.

A really simple to test to see if you are doing things right is to start mControl so that it is running in the system tray, and then run the command "mcontrol.exe /exit". It should close - if not your commandline syntax is wrong.
